Mai Tais @ Trader Vics – Downtown LA

Last year, GreyRepublic co-founder, Errin came out to LA for some random reason and of course we had to kick it. Some how we ended up at ORIGINAL Trader Vics in Beverly Hills. Apparently this place invented the Mai-Tai. So bless them for that. These damn things are STRONG. They’re great.  Now one of my favorite drinks.

So last week when I was Downtown, I had some time to kill so I rolled into Trader Vics and order some pretty great battered halibut. I dont remember what it was called. I also managed to not take a picture. 1. because the fish was great and I killed it. 2. while eating said fish, I was already pretty faded from the drink pictured above.

This place comes highly recommended. By me.  I cant wait till Errin comes out here again. We are going to the OG joint for drinks!

Random Riverside HotRod Car Show

Last Saturday, I drove all the way out to Riverside to watch the Flyod vs Shane fight over my cousin JD’s house. This is a 90 mile trip for me.  Just thought I’d mention that lol. But I got out there a couple of hours before the first fight was gonna start. And on the way to JD’s house I couldnt help but notice there was some kind of car show, fucking up traffic in the streets of Downtown Riverside. lol

So JD and I figured we would kill some time at the Car Show. It was pretty cool. Silly us though, I forgot my camera. He forgot his. So All we could do is rely on my trusty Blackberry lol.

Espn Zone Has The BEST Carrot Cake in the History of EVER!

I consider myself the Official Carrot Cake Taster of Los Angeles. Because Carrot Cake is my favorite kind of cake. That isnt cheese cake. Last Saturday I just so happen to find myself at the ESPN Zone. So of course I ordered the Carrot Cake off their menu. Its called Carrot Cake Rum something or the other.

This has to be the best Carrot Cake Ive ever had in my life. It was sweet, but not too sweet to finish some how. Or maybe it was just that damn good to me. I would have to go back and order another one to go into full detail about how good this Carrot Cake is. Because when I was eating it, I was in some kind of blissful daze. I couldnt believe what I was eating. I really couldnt. You have to try it. Even if Carrot Cake isnt your favorite. This is the best Carrot Cake in all of Los Angeles! Until I have something better of course lol.

Mingle and Plei – E3rd Steakhouse and Lounge

Every Friday night at E3rd, Downtown LA, Mingle and Plei takes over the restraunt for a night of socializing and board games. Thats right. Board games, card games, all kinds of classic games we all grew up playing. Its awesome. Its also pretty damn ingenious if u ask me. Its a great ice breaker or a new way to make friends. Ive been a few times. This is one of the few places I will actually go by myself. Here, you can dance, eat, play board games, and have a drink. All in one place.

This last Friday was Monets birthday. And I got my usual bad influence on. I bought her a sex on the beach (which I call a “sand in the ass”). By the end of he night she was FADED! It was great! Happy Birthday Monet! (pictured above. she was nice and faded lol)

Pictured here, somebody I just randomly started playing dominos with. I think his name was Nick. He was cool.

Cabana Club for Jamaica Live

I was stressed and wanted to hear some reggae/dancehall and chill.  So where to go on a Thursday nite?  Cabana Club!… But this may have marked my last appearance at Cabana Club for Jamaica Live.  Unless there’s a performance I really want to see, or just really really need to step out on a Thursday nite, I’m gonna try and stay away.  Now I expect most everyone’s been to Cabana Club…by the way there isn’t anymore water in the fountain thingie…why?  Who knows.  Maybe too many people were falling in.  Otherwise, it’s the same set up.  Patio area outside and sometimes the room inside opens…usually when there’s a performance.

Why am I staying away?  I saw too many draws lol.  Females dancing to the point that you see their underwear is a bad look.  The overall crowd was just ehh for me…and I’m pretty chill so that’s saying a lot.  Great people watching, but the vibe was off.  I was also wondering why it was so empty til I went in the other room where they were playing hiphop and it was packed.  Doesn’t say much for a reggae club when the hiphop room is cracking and the reggae room isn’t.   I’m sure it has its off nites and maybe I just experienced one…but something’s gotta be done to revive it before I go back.  Doesn’t help that the bartenders don’t seem to love the art of bartending either.  Love the promoters and the DJs outside were excellent…but the crowd man.  Need to work on the crowd.  Hopefully I’ll check out Jamaican Gold at its new spot…Wonderland…soon.  Hopefully, it won’t disappoint.

Capitol City

Capitol City describes itself as L.A.’s  First Upscale Sports Bar and Lounge.  I guess that’s a good description but I don’t remember seeing any sports on the plethora of big tv screens. There were music videos though.

So let me try to explain the set up.  You enter from Caheunga Blvd into a decedent sized space with the bar on the right and booths for bottle service on the left.  When facing the bar there is a door to a patio with seating.  To the left is another decent sized room which leads to a back patio.  There is also an upstairs (VIP area).  Ok aside from that break down, I can only speak for the Friday nite event that I attended.  There was a bunch of stuff going on, NFL Party – Friday night promotion by Darran Matthews –  few birthday parties.  There were two DJs one providing music inside and one for the outside back patio.  The music was hip-hop/top 40s.  Not much room to dance on the “dance floor” in the second room, but there is more space in the back patio.  Decent drinks for about $12 each…nice bartenders who managed to smile even though they were overwhelmed…there was a considerable wait for drinks unless you were seated right in front of the bar (which I was).  So I grubbed…and yes I was the only person sitting at the bar grubbing…I had the calamari and the sweet potato fries which were pretty good.  Actually no lie, the sweet potato fries were excellent.  The portions were huge so my cousin and I couldn’t finish them, but even cold the sweet potato fries were yummy!  Did I take any pics?  Of course not! J  I’ll work on that with my next review.

You want a good place to chill, I suggest Capitol City on a Friday night for Darran Matthew’s event.  It did get crowded though so if you want a seat on the patio or a guaranteed seat inside, get there early or do dinner/bottle service.  Otherwise, just go and chill.

Every month, the good folks of Mingle and Plei have a Bonfire all day event at Dockwilder beach. I Love the beach, this is something Im going to try to make monthly this summer. Everybody is friendly, lots of cool people. Great way to chill on a Saturday.
Here are the details from the site:

Get ready! It’s time for our 5th Annual series of Plei @ the Beach! It’s time for our legendary tug-of-war, co-ed football games, and Smores!

Bring the kids, chairs and/or blankets, footballs, food, drinks, volleyballs, Frisbees, music, games, and marshmallows (and don’t forget the sticks!!)… everyone is invited!

***EVERYONE MUST BRING WOOD FOR THE FIRE… you can find a roll of wood at any grocery store or Home Depot, or pick one up at the 7-11 off Imperial Blvd a few blocks before the beach (or bring a few bucks to donate to the wood fund if they are sold out).

Got directions?? Take the 105 freeway west all of the way until it ends at Imperial Blvd. Take Imperial Blvd all of the way until it ends at the beach. We normally are at one of the first pits to the right of the entrance. LOOK FOR THE PLEI BANNER!

FYI: THIS IS A FULL DAY EVENT! 12PM – 10PM. Come early, leave late, and make sure you bring your sunscreen. Parking is about $7 unless you can find parking on the street above. The beach closes at 10 PM!!

See you there!

This past Saturday was my first time attending. I enjoyed myself. Everybody was super cool. I gotta new nickname lol “Apple Juice” and made some new friends. It was kind of cold, but the next event will be in May. The bikinis will be out. It will be great.  Up next we have a video of Mone’t trying to wrassle (real word) a hammock to the ground lol

I met Peta-Gay for lunch today. She wanted to eat here because it was close to her job. Im not one for Japanese food really, but Im trying to be more open minded lately. And since they had chicken, I was down. I dont like Sushi at ALL. So the all you can eat Sushi situation was out for me.

I had the Chicken Teriyaki Lunch.
