I go to the Jazz Reggae Fest every year, for the last 4 or 5 years. Ive always enjoyed myself. This time was no different. I cant lie, I wasnt there to see the majority of the acts. I just wanted to see Q-tip and Nas… and Barrington Levy, who did not preform Champion (my theme song lol) and slightly broke my heart lol.

My birthday is either right before or during memorial day every year. So this has become part of what I plan to do for my birthday for the past few years. Some how, every time I go, I see old friends and make new friends and have a pretty damn good time.

BUT! Here are some things you should do going to this event.

Bring Money, water and snacks. There is authentic Jamacian and soul food there. There is also all kinds of other ethnic food there. But! its kinda expensive. So what Im saying is, bring money to eat something tasty. Bring snacks and water so you dont spend 50 dollars a day up there. Its very well possible. I usually do! lol

Bring a bag with something to sit on. They dont allow chairs or anything like that. So a blanket, or towel works. But I’d be willing to bet youre GOING to lay down at some point. Bring a blanket or sheet to stretch out on.

It is GOING to be hot. This year was only kind of hot. The last few years, SUPER HOT. dress accordingly.

RE: Dressing Accordingly. ALL the women that show up DO! And its super awesome.

Alot of women attend this event. Its great. Super great. Sun dresses all over the place.

This event is held on grass. Dont wear special flossy shoes. I see people bitch and complain EVERY YEAR. lol

Go with the biggest group of people you can. Or meet up with people there. The more people youre with. The better time youre gonna have. This is not just me saying that. But Ive seen alot of big groups of people have a great time.

Thats really the best advice I can give.

Lastly, Id like to say, that I DID NOT know that Q-Tip was such a very live performer!! This man shut it down. I didnt even stick around for Raphel Sadiq!

And the big finish

This man got on the screen base and basically finish shutting it down. I was in awe… Thats a real hiphoper right there. This man puts hella energy into his preformance. I HAVE To go see Tribe at Rock The Bells this August!

So one day, Im go over to Jon’s house to kick it with him and Benny and some of their homies. I get there and find out that they are going to some event downtown. Since Im pretty spontaneous, I decided to roll. Which resulted in me totally flaking on Moran, who I was suppose to give some computer files to that same evening. SORRY! ! lol. I blew it on that one.

We went to the Hello Show at the Papillion Institute of Art. Promoted by: Eleven Twenty PR. Good music, nice peices on display. The homies from Broccli City was there. Jokes, good conversation. It was pretty cool. Nice “grown up” time.

Every Tuesday, Downtown Long Beach ( which is super nice now btw ), at The Cellar there is a pretty chill Music and Open mic night. A friend of mine, Reggie puts it on every tuesday. There are Happy Hour specials, great $1 Tacos, if theres a game on its playing, Live music and talent on the mic. The house band, I cant remember their name. I think they are called Chuck and the Laces. They get down on the covers and their original music is cool as well.

I had a great time here. Mind you I knew a lot of people who hang out here before hand. But still lol. I had a pretty good Mojito and I had a problem staying away from the tacos. They are like street tacos. But more fixings. Basically Black people like cheese on their tacos and thats what it is lol. Of course you put the fixings on your own tacos. There are plenty of options.

Good people good times!

My new thing for the summer is to try to make it down here every other week. (when I get my radio back in my car lol) So for the time being, this is about as close to a GreyRepublic Event as their is. Considering how many of us are usually their. So stop on by! Its almost like Cheers because its under ground and theres a good chance you (Republic Members) will know some one there. Everybody is super friendly. So even if you dont. You’ll enjoy your self! Oh yea. Lastly, alot of the women that frequent this place are beautiful. Your Welcome.

Tacos / Food provided by http://www.yummycreations.net/ Mojito from the bar! lol

BCTV: ANY1MAN OPENING NIGHT LA from Broccolicity TV on Vimeo.

This was a great show and well worth the $20 this weekend. Really thought provoking and entertaining. Super great show. But it got me to thinking…

Sometimes, you meet people. You ask them what they do.You usually take their word for it. If that person happens to be some kind of entertainer or artist or what have you. It kinda puts a different twist on things. You may not realize it then, but there could come a time were you have to view this persons work. Not only that, but youre gonna feel pretty obligated to give some kind of feedback. If that feedback happens to be less than what that person wanted to hear (and who knows what that is for sure) things could get dreadfully awkward. There have been tons of sitcom episodes structured with this same premise Im sure most people reading this are familiar.

Any 1 Man is a 1 man show starting George A. Peters II. One day, somebody is going to have to explain the difference between Jr and II is. Maybe I should ask George himself. Ive actually been knowing about this show longer than I’ve actually known George, which is another story in itself. But when I heard the Any1man show was in LA, I had to go. Not only to support the homie, but I was really intrigued as to what this show could possibly be about.

Liz and I met George, along with Benny and Jon some months back on Random Venice Saturday. To make a long story short, we met through friends of friends on twitter and the net, had a bootleg mini tweet up, got drunk, took pictures and filmed a PSA. Had a blast!
Turns out, George is an actor. He has a 1 man show he does called Any 1 Man. Benny and Jon happen to also help him put on this show. Cool. However, that wasnt the reason they were out here months ago. Fast foward to the present and it just so happens that the Any 1 Man show is coming to LA! Hotdamn! I jumped at the chance to see the show.

I wont give away any spoilers… and if you go see this play, as Im about to over recommend, you will immediately know what Im talking about lol. That being said. This was a GREAT show! There are two things that are true about me. 1 – Im not some one who is gonna say go see something just because I know the people involved. 2 – I rarely watch anything more than once. I promise I plan to take as many people as I can this upcoming weekend. Im going to see it again. It was that good. This show can seriously make you laugh and could possibly make you cry. It might make you angry, it might give you a clearer view on the way things between men and women work and why that is. Very thought provoking. Very Entertaining. George managed to keep my attention the whole way through. Not an overly long show, only an hour long. And honestly my man does his THING on that stage. Thats real.
Im a person who watches TV shows, Movies, Plays or whatever and I try to guess the plot before the end. Or the point of the story before the end. This show, I actually had to wait till the end almost connect all the dots. Just the way I like it.
So shout out to my man George, for putting on a great show! Thusly, us having avoided that awkward moment when he asked me what I thought about the show. And then when he asked me again. But you know, foreal this time lmao.

If you want to roll with me to the show either thrusday, friday or saturday, let me know. No, Im not going all 3 days lol. Just 1. This is going to have to be a group effort.

Since I consider myself a Wu-head there was no way I was about to miss this show. I didnt even care who else was gonna be there. Turns out The Alchemist was gonna be there too. Double the reason to go. The show was put on by ThankGodImFamous.com, the opening acts were all pretty live to my surprise. Usually things like that are a complete crap shoot and in this case, things turned out in our favor. Lucky us! The Key Club is a pretty good spot to attend a live show. They have alot of VIP seating. Next time I go there for a show I want to see, Im getting a table. They have food and everything. Two levels, bar upstairs. Nice place. tables are no more than $400 I believe. I had a huge ass sub woofer in my ear all nite, I could have seen things wrong lol. But Im pretty sure.

Had a great time! Got to see Raekwon preform some of the classics, a few joints from cuban linx 2, which should be live as hell! It was great. The Alchemist puts on a super great set. He kept the crowd rockin! He played alot of classics, brought out B-Real and Large Professor to do preform. Evidence came out and did a couple of tracks, rocked it. Alchemist even preformed Hold You Down. Great effin time.

Shout out to Gotty of SmokingSection.net and Sickamore of ThankGodImFamous.com for gettin us into the show and allowing us to shoot footage.
